Sodomy 2.0: Statement from the dock has hurt Anwar's case more than helped it

The Sodomy case against Anwar Ibrahim has gone to new heights of ridiculousness with the Opposition leader indulging in adolescent diatribe from the dock.
Here is one person who thinks that he has scored a major goal by quoting playwrights and famous people from the dock as he runs down the judge, judiciary and his political enemies.
Here is a person that has been allowed the privilege to indulge in this anomaly and he wants the world to sit back and think that he has, somehow, been victimized.
The fact is, the petty political palaver delivered a massive blow to his own credibility as the nation scratches it’s collective head wondering why he never bothered to persuade Malaysians that the case is politically motivated.
He offered no crumbs of evidence that could even satisfy the fence sitters who want to believe that he is facing political prosecution.
Instead they are left confused about the message.
Anwar can quote the regal and respected Nelson Mandela all he wants but no one will ever confuse the scandal smeared Opposition leader for the proud and decorated leader of the Anti-Apartheid movement who continues to lead a life unblemished by scandal of any sort.
From there, it went to pieces.
Anwar’s decision to try and discredit the prosecution’s case from the dock is like telling the enemy exactly the course of action that the defence wishes to take.
What is really glaring is that Anwar failed to create any sense of victimization in the current situation, there are no airtight alibis to tear him away from the accusation and this leaves the people to judge him based on political pleadings, not the best strategy even at the best of times.
Strange and damaging though that episode of political grandstanding may be, the icing on the cake came today when the PKR insists that the system has no choice but to pass a ‘guilty’ verdict and that would bestow Anwar more honour in the fashion of Nelson Mandela.
That I think perfectly frames the exaggerated sense of self-importance that has infected the mind of Anwar Ibrahim and, clearly, he has passed that on to his party.
